North Terminal Development Program at Miami International Airport

The North Terminal Development Program at Miami International Airport (MIA) represents one of the largest and most complex airport expansion projects in U.S. history. Spanning 15 integrated projects designed by five architectural firms, this initiative was the equivalent of constructing a mid-sized airport within a fully operational facility.

The project includes the addition of 50 new gates, advanced U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services facilities, 123 ticket counters, 119 self-service kiosks, and 72 federal inspection services locations. A cutting-edge baggage system capable of processing 45,000 bags daily, nearly two miles of escalators and moving walkways, and an automated people mover system were also installed. The expansion offers a comprehensive range of concessions and customer service areas to elevate the passenger experience.

This ambitious program successfully delivered 1,800,000 square feet of renovated space and 1,900,000 square feet of new construction, including a 400,000-square-foot federal inspection facility, setting new benchmarks in airport development and operational efficiency.
