What is Electrical Engineering?
Electrical engineering is the field focused on designing, developing, and maintaining electrical systems and components to ensure they function safely and efficiently. At Hat Electric LLC, our engineering team works to deliver innovative solutions for diverse projects, from data centers to high-rise buildings.
What motivated you to pursue a career in electrical engineering?
Before joining Hat Electric LLC, I was a small business owner and also worked in the construction industry. My interest in electrical engineering sparked when I attended a seminar about renewable energy. Intrigued by the potential of sustainable power solutions, I began researching and taking online courses to learn more about the field.
I later enrolled in the Electrical Engineering program at the University of Punjab. During my studies, I secured an internship at Hat Electric LLC. In December 2024, I completed my degree and transitioned into my current role as an electrical engineering analyst at Hat Electric LLC.
What challenges in electrical engineering did you not expect when you started, and what surprised you the most?
In school, we covered many engineering concepts, but I was surprised by the complexity and scale of real-world projects. Each project has unique challenges, from navigating regulatory requirements to ensuring safety standards. The rapid advancements in technology and the growing emphasis on sustainability also keep the field dynamic and challenging.
What do you consider the biggest challenges facing the electrical engineering field today?
One of the biggest challenges is the integration of renewable energy sources into existing electrical grids. As the demand for sustainable energy grows, engineers must develop innovative solutions to ensure reliable power supply while minimizing environmental impact. Additionally, keeping up with the rapid pace of technological advancements requires continuous learning and adaptation.
What did you spend most of your time working on as an intern?
Hat Electric LLC empowers interns to explore their areas of interest under the mentorship of experienced team members. During my internship, I worked on various projects, from designing electrical systems for new buildings to improving existing infrastructure. I also gained hands-on experience with the latest engineering tools and software, which prepared me well for my current role.
How do you see electrical engineering evolving over the next five years?
In the next five years, we will likely see further integration of smart technologies and renewable energy solutions into electrical systems. Innovations in energy storage and grid management will play a crucial role in making sustainable power more accessible and reliable. Engineers will need to stay at the forefront of these advancements to continue delivering efficient and safe electrical solutions.
What advice do you have for those interested in an electrical engineering career? For those interested in electrical engineering, I recommend starting with online resources and courses to build a foundational understanding. Networking with professionals in the field and seeking mentorship can provide valuable insights. Additionally, pursuing internships is crucial to gain practical experience and exposure to real-world challenges. My internship at Hat Electric LLC was instrumental in shaping my career and preparing me for the role I’m in now.
